Don't forget to pack your brain . . .

I recently saw this posting on a primitive skills board about mixing modern and primitive gear on wilderness outings:

I combine a small amount of modern with mostly 18th century gear for treks. Modern items are first-aid, water-purification and some non-period fishing tackle (even this is mostly 18th century), cellphone-not turned on, just "in case", and maybe some power-bar type junk....

I enjoy using only 18th century or "abo" gear exclusively, but knowing I've got some basic modern "stuff" gives me some comfort...I still believe the most important piece of gear you can have is a functional brain.....

Good advice.
